Police recover Stolen Cruiser from back yard in Dublin, Ohio
Sunday, April 1, 2001
Dublin police yesterday recovered a Perry Township police cruiser
that was stolen Friday evening.
The cruiser was abandoned in the back yard of a residence on
Heatherwood Court, about a half-mile east of the intersection
of Muirfield Drive and Brand Road.
Nothing was missing from the vehicle, police said.
"We weren't actually able to walk into our back yard because they were
investigating," said Jennifer Aldinger, who lives on the cul-de-sac.
"The battery was dead."
The car was discovered about 8 a.m.
"The resident called and said there was a police car in their back yard.
It had been there most of the night," said Sgt Ed Konpul of the Perry
Township Police Department.
The thief "actually had to drive through yards to get there. They had
to go out of their way to hide it."
Konpul said an officer had left the key in the car after parking it in
front of the station at 7125 Sawmill Rd., near I-270.
The incident appears to be a prank -- but police aren't laughing. The
car was taken to the Dublin police station to dust for fingerprints,
and police are pursuing leads, he said.
The thief is described as a man wearing black clothing.
Police pursued the cruiser after it was taken, but the driver eluded them.
