Dover, NH - Suspect Smashes Police Cruiser Window - Tries To Steal - Assaults Officer - Escapes
Dover man charged with assault, breaking into off-duty police officer's vehicle
DOVER — A local man with an
outstanding bench warrant is facing a host of charges for allegedly breaking
into an off-duty police officer's car, assaulting the officer and resisting
arrest.
According to Dover police, Ryan M. Fredericks, 18, of 48 Piscataqua Road,
smashed the window of an off-duty Milton police officer's cruiser at 5:30 a. m.
Tuesday at the Sawyer Mills Apartments.
Dover Police Capt. Michael Raiche said the Milton officer, who lives at the
apartment complex, heard breaking glass and saw Fredericks getting into his
police cruiser.
"When he got outside the individual was sitting in the cruiser attempting to
steal the cruiser," Raiche said. Raiche said when the officer identified
himself, Fredericks pushed him and ran away. Dover police responded to the scene
and found Fredericks by following his footprints in the snow.
Police said the officer's cruiser had a rifle that is secured with a locking
mechanism, and a laptop computer. Raiche said the officer reported a set of keys
missing from the cruiser.
Fredericks faces charges of theft from a motor vehicle, criminal mischief to a
motor vehicle stemming from the damage to a police cruiser's driver-side window,
resisting arrest, simple assault and the bench warrant against him.
Bail for Fredericks was set at $5,000 cash bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned
on Feb. 22 in Dover District Court.
