Detroit Police Find Missing Cruiser
Found on 11/08/02

DETROIT - The Detroit Police Department found a missing
cruiser taken Thursday morning by an unidentified man.

Police said the vehicle had been dropped off at the Police
repair garage on Russell Street for an oil change. At around
8 a.m. Thursday, someone walked in the garage, showed a
badge to a police employee, and then left with the cruiser.

When the officers later returned to the garage to pick up
the vehicle, it was gone.

Police were concerned that someone might have taken the cruise
to impersonate an officer. They could not confirm whether
the person who signed out the car was actually an officer.

Officers searched most of the day for the missing cruiser.
At about 11 p.m., officers found it parked on Russell and Ferry,
not far from the garage.

The vehicle was not damaged and nothing was taken, police said.
Investigators do not yet know who took the cruiser or why.
