DELRAY BEACH — Police shocked a Delray Beach man with a Taser stun gun Friday
night when he allegedly broke into his mother's home, punched an officer and
tried to steal the officer's squad car, according to a police report.
Emmitt Manning, 37, broke into the house in the 300 block of Northwest Sixth
Avenue around 8:20 p.m., smashing a window and climbing through it, police said.
When an officer arrived, Manning punched him in the chin, then grabbed him in a
bear hug, according to the report. The officer broke free, radioed for help and
stunned Manning in the stomach with the Taser.
Manning then ran toward the officer's locked, running car and pulled the door
handle. The officer again stunned Manning in the stomach, and he continued
to swing at the officer, the report said. Backup officers arrived and handcuffed
Manning.
He was charged with burglary, battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting
arrest with violence and attempted grand theft of a motor vehicle.
