Decatur, GA officer survives violent stabbing attack, took police cruiser with officer in trunk

11/2/2004 DECATUR, Ga. -- A disarmed officer endured stabbings and a ride in the trunk of his police cruiser following a routine trafficstop.

Officer R.W. Jones received cuts to his hands and body after struggling with Robert Williams, 33, during a traffic stop at 2 a.m. on Monday.

Williams disarmed Jones and then forced the officer into the trunk of the patrol car. As Williams drove the patrol car, the officer waited for the suspect to come to a stop. Jones then pulled the trunk latch and exited, and again struggled with the suspect.

Williams ran off and Jones called for assistance. Police arrested the suspect after a brief foot chase.

Williams faces charges of kidnapping, armed robbery, and aggravated assault.
