Decatur officers arrested a man Tuesday after he tried to steal a police car and a city repair truck, according to a report.

Public Works Department employees Oscar Jasso and Danny Dotson II told police they saw Larry Donnell Dancy enter a police car, start it and try to drive away.

The pair said they blocked Dancy from leaving the Public Works compound on Central Parkway near 14th Street Southeast.

Police Sgt. Steve Campbell, who was entering through the compound gate, also spotted Dancy, 41, of 2113 Central Parkway Apartment D-2, and chased him on foot.

Police said Dancy then got into a street repair truck and tried to drive from the compound. Campbell stopped him and ordered him from the truck.

Police charged Dancy with second-degree criminal trespassing and two counts of first-degree property theft.
