CRAVEN COUNTY- A routine morning call for a Craven County deputy
ended with a stolen patrol car and a manhunt. After more than three
hours of searching for a Cove City man, Craven County deputies finally
tracked him down. According to deputies, 29 year old Mark Terrance
Murrell was originally stopped and questioned after a store owner
reported a suspicious man hanging around the store. Deputies say
when the officer took Murrell's drivers license, he ran away. He
eventually jumped into a deputy's patrol car and drove down old US 70
a little ways. The sheriff's department found Murrell in a relative's
mobile home next door to his own. The Sheriff's Department says when
Murrell was first stopped they realized he had an outstanding warrant
for failing to register as a sex offender. He has also been charged
with fleeing to elude arrest, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle
and two counts of resist, obstruct and delay.
