Council Bluffs cop car stolen in Omaha

Council Bluffs police are searching for a man who stole a marked police
cruiser Saturday night.
Police were called to the westbound lanes of the Interstate Highway 480 bridge
to check the welfare of a man walking on the bridge. Officers gave the man a
ride to the area of 10th and Dodge streets in neighboring Omaha, Neb.
After the officer let the subject out of the rear passenger seat of the cruiser,
the man got back into the car through the front passenger door and crawled into
the driver's seat, taking control of the cruiser. The car was last seen
driving westbound on Douglas Street in Omaha.
The stolen vehicle is a black and white 2006 Ford Crown Victoria with Council
Bluffs police markings displaying 837 on the roof and front fenders. The vehicle
displays Iowa official city plate #87659. The car is equipped with a light bar
and push bumper.
The suspect is described as a black man in his late 20s, 6 feet 2 inches tall
and weighing 180 pounds. He was wearing a black, down-style coat, dark stocking
cap and dark pants.
