COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Sumter County authorities say a man has been charged in
connection with the theft of a Sumter City police vehicle.
The incident occurred between March and April 3, 2009, according to Sumter
County authorities.
Police say after Raymond Tate stole the police car from the city shop, he
took the vehicle to a wooded area off of John Cain Road in the Lynchburg part of
Sumter County and stripped the vehicle so he could put the parts on his vehicle
that had been wrecked.
An incidnet report states the 2001 Ford Crown Victoria had the following
removed: the hood, trunk lid, front left quarter panel, left front tire, front
bumper, both front lights, inside blue lights, police radio and front grill.
Some of those parts were recovered. The front grill, blue lights and the
police radio are still missing.
The vehicle and contents are valued at approximately $9,400.
A warrant was served on Tate at the jail and he is awaiting a bond hearing.
The Sumter Police Department has charged Tate with grand larceny auto.
