Claiborne, TN      1/8/01

Sheriff Shoffner wishes to announce that officers with the
Union County Sheriff's Department had a patrol car stolen
on 12-24-2000, in the Straight Branch Community, while on
a domestic call a Union County officer went into the residence
of the call and when he returned to his car, he found it gone.
A radio call to his department resulted in a rapid response from
the Claiborne County Sheriff's Department personnel on duty.

The patrol car was spotted by officer Dennis Beck and Sgt. Jeff
Noah in the Powell Valley Community, the driver who was identified
as Jessie Marlow of the Straight Branch Community of Union County.

Mr. Marlow attempted to strike Officer Beck with the Patrol Car.
The officers then gave chase and after a short pursuit
Mr. Marlow wrecked the patrol car and fled on foot into a
field with the shotgun from the patrol car. Sgt. Jeff Noah and
Officer Dennis Beck located Mr. Marlow who was laying on
the ground in tall grass on top of the shot gun and placed him under
arrest without incident. Mr. Marlow was charged here in Claiborne
County with felony evading arrest, driving under the influence,
driving on a revoked license second offense, aggravated assault
and resisting arrest. Other charges are pending in Union County
for the theft of the patrol car.
