TV show to feature shot Cincinnati officer
that had her Patrol Car Stolen
Post staff report - 01-10-2005
Former Cincinnati Police Officer Katie Conway, who was shot four times by
a man who forced his way into her cruiser in February 1998, and the doctors and
nurses who treated her when she was brought to University Hospital will be
featured in a re-enactment on the Discovery Health Channel at 8 p.m. today.
Conway, the doctors and the nurses will appear in person on the program, said Pat Sampson, spokeswoman for University Hospital.
Doctors who treated Conway said four bullets from a .357 Magnum pistol struck her, putting "seven to nine holes" in her as they entered, caromed and, in a couple of cases, exited.
Conway was waiting at a traffic light on Central Parkway in Over-the-Rhine about 7:45 p.m. on Feb. 2, 1998, when Daniel T. Williams walked toward her cruiser and opened fire with a gun he concealed behind a boom box he was carrying, police said.
Williams, who had a history of mental problems, then shoved her from behind the wheel and jumped into the driver's seat, police said. Williams drove only a short distance down Central Parkway before Conway fatally shot him in the head.
