Canton, OH - Police Undercover Gang Unit Police Car Stolen - Police Radio Stolen - Missing
Gang unit's car stolen, then found
CANTON Someone stole the Gang Task Force's undercover vehicle Saturday as
well as a police radio inside.
Police Chief Dean McKimm said that the green Denali, believed to be easily
identified by criminal street gang members, was found about 45 minutes later in
the 3600 block of Ellis Avenue NE.
The vehicle is a forfeiture and is used by the task force in several police
operations.
Police have said in the past two years that the criminal 33rd Street Gang had
been active in that area.
"The Denali is well-known on the street, but there's no way to know if this
individual (who stole it) knew what they were taking," the chief said.
A Gang Task Force officer had driven the vehicle to an off-duty security job at
the Northeast Community Center, 2600 25th St. NE, Saturday night. It was
taken from the parking lot, McKimm said.
The police radio was missing, and the vehicle sustained damage to the mirror,
but it was recovered, he said.
No one was arrested, and the theft remained under investigation, McKimm said.
