Deputy’s Cruiser Nabbed

Butler, OhioA village police cruiser was stolen early Saturday morning when it was left outside a Duke & Duchess gas station in the village.

According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, Butler officer William McBride entered the station at 12:32 a.m. He told deputies he parked the cruiser just outside the door, with the key in the ignition, while he stopped in for a drink. McBride said when he came out of the service station 15 – 20 minutes later, the cruiser was gone.

Deputies, state troopers and officers from Bellville and Butler searched for the cruiser immediately and finally found it parked off North Liberty Road near Butler. The cruiser, apparently undamaged, was towed back to town.

Nobody was near the cruiser when it was found. An investigation is continuing.
