A Haw River man was arrested after police say he stole a car while intoxicated at the Burlington Police Department and was involved in six hit-and-runs before crashing into a house on Friday.
Police said Fearrington drove the car recklessly from North Church Street to Holland Avenue. He was reportedly involved in six separate hit-and-run accidents before crashing into the home of Tonya Roberts and Clyde Austin at 2245 Holland Ave.
Delroy Hudson, who witnessed the crash, tried approaching Fearrington afterward. Police said Fearrington fired a single gunshot at the witness before abandoning the vehicle and fleeing the scene on foot.
Police said Fearrington was arrested nearby the scene shortly after running away.
The suspect was charged with six counts of hit-and-run, driving while impaired, driving with a revoked license, larceny of a vehicle, discharging a firearm in city limits, and carrying a concealed weapon.
Nobody was injured as a result of the incident, police said.
Fearrington had originally been traveling with Summers and was drinking in a passenger seat, police said. Summers had reportedly gone inside to bail her husband out of jail when Fearrington drove away in her car without permission.
The suspect reportedly knocked over a street sign, a fire hydrant, and several mailboxes over a four-mile stretch of Holland Avenue.
Police said about $4,000 in damage was caused to the stolen car and about $3,000 in damage was caused to the home which he crashed into.
"I don't know how much damage was caused. I figure it was around $5,000 to $6,000," Austin said.
Theresa Bryant said she witnessed everything from the front porch of her home next door.
"If it's under the influence, you have no business driving on any given day. And speeding to that amount is ridiculous," Bryant said.
