BURLINGTON, N.C. - The first thought of an officer who
responded to the report of a nude woman trying to get into a
customer's car downtown, when the temperatures were in the
20s, was to get the woman in the squad car and get a blanket
around her.
But when the officer went to the trunk to get a blanket, the
naked female somehow squeezed through an opening in the plastic
shield separating the back and front seats, and drove away in
the officer's patrol car.
After a short pursuit through downtown, the cruiser was stopped
when it backed into another patrol car. Joy Lynn Tedesco, 33,
of Orange Park, Fla, was charged with stealing a patrol car,
speeding to elude arrest, driving while impaired, driving without
a license and assaulting a police officer.
Authorities said Tedesco was also charged with a second assault
on an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia after she
was taken to the jail.
Assistant Police Chief Bennie Felts said officers didn't
know how the woman got to Burlington, why she was nude
or where she left her clothes. They gave her a jumpsuit at
the county jail, where she remained under a $21,000 bond.
