A 17-year-old led police on a chase early Sunday morning, stealing a
Brunswick County sheriff's deputy's car in the process, authorities said.
The driver, Dustin Matthew Jordan, of Leland, faces numerous allegations,
including driving while intoxicated in three different vehicles, one of them a
law enforcement car, according to 1st Sgt. A.E. Morris of the N.C. Highway
Patrol.
The incident began around 1:19 a.m. when Jordan lost control on Governor's Road
near Winnabow and flipped his vehicle, according to Trooper K.E. Herring.
Jordan's three passengers were injured, one of them seriously, and Jordan fled
into the woods.
Brunswick County sheriff's deputies searched the woods a distance from the
accident scene. After that, Jordan drove away in a deputy's patrol car.
Herring said he didn't know specifics of the theft other than that Jordan was in
the woods for about an hour then fled the scene in the deputy's vehicle.
He headed west on U.S. 74 and, just after crossing into Columbus County,
wrecked and seriously damaged the patrol car, Herring said.
When a passer-by stopped, authorities allege, Jordan said someone in the
wrecked cruiser needed help.
When the would-be good Samaritan stepped out, Jordan stole their Dodge Durango,
according to the highway patrol.
Troopers intercepted the Durango on U.S. 74 and eventually stopped the truck,
arresting Jordan after a short foot-race.
He is being held in the Columbus County jail, Herring said.
