April 11, 2002
A 50-year-old Bristol, Vermont man is in intensive care after a
one-car crash involving a stolen police cruiser.
Carroll Thompson faces several charges. Those include driving under
the influence, aggravated operation without owners consent and
driving with a suspended license.
Police responded to an accident in Lincoln about 1 a.m. this
morning, some 20 minutes after Bristol police officers reported
that their cruiser had been stolen from in front of the police station.
The cruiser struck a power pole off the side of a road, knocking out
power and totaling the car.
Thompson, who suffered head and internal injuries in the crash,
was taken to Porter Hospital, and later was airlifted to the Fletcher
Allen Health Care hospital in Burlington.
The accident remains under investigation, state police said.
