3:50 PM: Police Car Stolen from Crockett Street
A man was arrested for stealing a police car from the Crockett Street
Entertainment District Sunday morning, police said.
The 25-year-old man is at the Jefferson County Correctional Facility in lieu of
a $10,000 bond for felony theft.
A Beaumont police sergeant was called to the entertainment district at about 2
a.m. because several people were causing problems, according to the police
report.
While the sergeant, whose name was not released, investigated, he got a phone
call from the dispatcher saying a witness saw a person in a police car jump the
curb in the 2300 block of Liberty Avenue and then ran off, the report stated.
The sergeant had left the patrol car running and the rear left window was
lowered, according to the report.
This was the third emergency vehicle stolen in Beaumont this year. The other two
were a fire truck and an ambulance.
