Athens, TN police stun one robbery suspect, another suspect steals and wrecks police car

12/16/04 - ATHENS, Tenn. It may take a while to explain this one in court.

McMinn County deputies arrested Robert Bell and Patrick Ellswood on charges of armed robbery, evading arrest, theft, criminal impersonation, unlawful possession of a weapon -- among others.

Ellswood was subdued with a Taser charge. Bell was, quite literally, caught napping.

Before those events occurred, police say a convenience store was robbed and they then chased Bell and Ellswood in a stolen S-U-V, which they crashed.

While Deputy Kimble Hyde was fighting with Ellsworth, police say Bell jumped in the police car and took off, eventually wrecking it.

While deputies were searching for Bell, a woman told them he had broken into her home smelling of alcohol and was asleep on her couch.
