Ardmore police continue their investigation into the
weekend theft of a police car.

Capt. John Beene said the car assigned to a reserve officer, was
stolen about 12:35am Sunday from a parking lot at Hardy Murphy
Coliseum. Beene said the name of the officer was being withheld
pending the outcome of the investigation.

"The reserve was assigned patrol in the southeast section of the city.
He stopped at the bull riding event to make a security check. He
went inside for a few minutes and when he returned the car was
gone. He called 911 to report it," Beene said.

Off-duty officers were called in to assist the investigation and
an intensive search for the stolen car was launched.

"We began a grid search and outlying agencies became involved," Beene
said. "The search was discontinued at 4:30 a.m.".

About 6:10 a.m. police dispatchers received a telephone tip the
car had been abandoned on Brock Road south of Lone Grove.

"Ardmore police officers and Carter County deputies went to the
location and recovered the car. It was not damaged and none of the
equipment was missing," Beene said. "As a result of the investigation
one female suspect was arrested."

The woman was identified as Lynette Durbin, 35, Ardmore. She was booked
into the county jail on pending charges of grand theft-auto and possession
of stolen property.

Beene did not reveal whether other arrests were expected or if investigators
had determined the motive for the car theft.
