Airdrie, Alberta -- The Mounties in Airdrie got their man,
but not before a fugitive drove off in one of their squad
cars and crashed it.
The drama started Monday afternoon in Airdrie, just north
of Calgary, when an off-duty Calgary police officer reported
that a vehicle struck his car and took off.
The off-duty officer gave chase and called RCMP on a cell
phone while following the suspect.
Mounties responding to the call, spotted the suspect and
attempted to stop him.
The suspect eventually abandoned his vehicle and fled on
foot into a nearby, empty farmhouse.
He circled around to the front, jumped into an unattended
RCMP squad car and took off again.
But the suspect soon ran out of luck. He collided with a
small bulldozer operated by an area resident.
The suspect tried running away, but he was caught and held
by the bulldozer operator and other bystanders.
