Investigators are searching for thieves who apparently broke into the Lee County home of an Albany police detective and stole his unmarked car, his handgun and handcuffs.

Lee County Chief Deputy Lewis Harris said the break-in happened early Monday morning at the unoccupied home of Darryl Jones. The Albany Herald reports that the thieves grabbed the detective's handgun, his bulletproof vest and his unmarked police car.

The stolen car was later found in Leesburg. Harris said that police have recovered all the stolen equipment except for a badge and a set of handcuffs.
