ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- St. Johns County deputies are looking for a thief or thieves who stole a police vehicle and drove it into a creek.

The SUV was recovered Friday morning in St. Augustine.

Investigators suspect whoever took it probably went on a joy ride, although they are not sure how it wound up in the creek.

The driver also knocked over several mailboxes nearby.

When police found the SUV, whoever stole it was gone.
