Authorities said it began in Prince George's
County, Md., around midnight when officers in that jurisdiction spotted a
stolen unmarked D.C. housing police car.
Police said the unmarked car, a white Ford Crown Victoria, was stolen
Feb. 28 near the housing authority headquarters in the District.
When officers spotted the vehicle, police said, they began to follow it and
eventually the stolen unmarked cruiser attempted to elude police.
Investigators said the fleeing car entered the District and when it got to
48th and Lee streets, in northeast Washington, the stolen vehicle slammed
into a D.C. police officer's cruiser stopped at a stop sign at the
intersection.
Police said the impact of the crash sent the D.C. police officer's
cruiser over the curb, through a chain-link fence and into the side of a
home damaging the gas meter on the side of a house.
Officials said the officer was taken to area hospital, where he was
treated and released.
The suspects in the stolen housing authority vehicle fled the scene on foot
after the crash, police said.
